Chef Franco’s Sunday Italian Brunch

Rosso at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta offers something quite different and unique on Jakarta’s brunch scene – which is generally dominated by a smorgasbord of international flavours. At Rosso, Chef Gianfranco Pirrone – better known as Chef Franco – specifically showcases luscious Italian fare spread throughout the all-you-can-eat buffet every Sunday.

A premium selection of cold cuts can be found at the antipasti section, meanwhile the meat carving station is too seductive to miss. Fresh seafood like shucked oysters, clams, prawns and lobsters are served on ice, and the live-cooking pasta station grabs attention with an abundance of scallops and foie gras among the choices of pasta toppings. Be sure to save space for some of the finest Italian chesses and desserts, like the delicate tiramisu and crème caramel or the refreshing gelato selection.

The flavoursome bites aren’t just found in the buffet. Wait for the cart serving risotto prepared in a parmesan wheel to come to your table, and don’t forget to check out the made-to-order à la carte menu, inclusive in the brunch package. While the à la carte menu is compact, the selections comprise unique, scrumptious dishes prepared from high-quality ingredients. The all-time favourites are the poached eggs with salmon tartare served on black buns with truffle Hollandaise sauce, spaghetti with crab meat and anchovies served with fennel sauce, and last but not least, the succulent beef tenderloin served with foie gras and sautéed spinach and gorgonzola sauce.

What’s an Italian brunch without Italian wines? Head over to the bar where it’s even cosier, or opt for the exclusive private dining area, and choose from Rosso’s fine wine selection. Unlike most brunches, Rosso’s genre is specifically Italian. That being said the niche selection actually offers such a wide range of superb-quality cuisine that you’ll find yourself completely satisfied and not looking for anything else.

“Our Italian Sunday Brunch concept is inspired by the warmth and togetherness of the Sunday reunion back in Italy, a special day for me and also quality time with the family. My mother used to spend more time cooking a special Sunday dish to pamper the whole family. We had lunch earlier so we could have more time to enjoy a relaxing Sunday with the whole family until late afternoon. Some special menus that I have brought here are the risotto on parmesan wheel, parma ham and my mother’s signature lasagna.”
