The setup of ASIN immediately tells you the kind of place it is. There’s a sense of zen within the dining room, clad in neutral and brown tones, which sits no more than 22 people. No flashy signs or extraneous accoutrements are present, save for a whimsical tree installation and a three-part art piece that hides Easter eggs of the current eight-course tasting menu prepared by Chef-Owner Ace Tan.

Billed as Progressive Asian Cuisine, first introduced at Chef Ace’s now-shuttered first outing ASU, the gastronomy here is guided by 蜙疗 (shi liao), the Chinese concept of food therapy where peak-season ingredients play a role in influencing bodily rhythms. It layers East Asian influences, including the philosophy of four seasons and Five Elements, with robust Southeast Asian flavours.
ASIN’s arrival continues to break the association of fine dining with Western fare. It proves how Asian heritage has a place among the haute cuisine landscape when given the same refinement, intention, technicality, and thoughtfulness.
