The rustic-chic cocktail bar TELU, which is firmly rooted in Bali’s history, environment and people, is a shining example of modern mixology, building on the passion for sustainability and community engagement at the core of Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay. TELU, found at the exclusive resort, is not just a bar; it’s a connection to the island, blending traditional products and techniques with innovative artistry to offer a truly inspiring experience.

Taking its name from the Balinese word for three, TELU symbolises the traditional Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, emphasising harmony with nature, people and soul. This philosophy forms the core of TELU’s operations, reflecting the bar’s commitment to wellbeing and prosperity through sustainable practices and supporting three local community initiatives.

DOWN TO EARTH

With over 80 percent of the ingredients grown or sourced locally, Bar Manager Jan Jurecka has created a menu that highlights a zero-waste philosophy and the aromatic flavours of Bali. Highlights include honey from the resort’s own trigona beehives, which is part of Indonesia’s bee conservation and community enterprise programme.

The menu is divided into three sections, each inspired by the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, and proceeds from these drinks support various Balinese charities. Drinks honouring nature’s rhythms support Sungai Watch, a charity tackling river pollution. One standout creation is Down to Earth, featuring gin, spirulina and matcha, passionfruit, guava, honey nectar and coconut milk whey. Drinks celebrating harmony with people help the Bali Children’s Project, which aids in educating underprivileged children. Meanwhile, drinks that sustain harmony with the soul back Ocean Gardener, dedicated to coral reef restoration. The Coral Guardian blends Palwana arak, spiced Nusa Cana rum, pandan, peanut, lime and dragon fruit jam for a unique flavour profile.

Moreover, TELU offers guests the opportunity to craft their sustainable cocktails with ingredients foraged from the surrounding herb garden, and a by-appointment-only TELU Sustainable Cocktail Bar Workshop that provides insights into Bali’s ancient arak traditions.
