Through an exclusive collaboration with Ron Gastrobar Indonesia and Batavia Restaurant, SEMAJA introduced its contemporary interpretation of Indonesian cuisine to European diners
SEMAJA, the modern Indonesian dining concept by ISMAYA Group, recently brought its contemporary interpretation of Indonesian cuisine to Europe through an exclusive culinary collaboration in Amsterdam and Brussels. The programme marked an important step in introducing Indonesian flavours to a wider international audience, particularly in Western Europe, where Indonesian cuisine is still less recognised compared to other Asian cuisines such as Japanese, Thai, and Indian food.
Located in Menteng, SEMAJA has built its reputation by presenting traditional Indonesian dishes through a more refined and modern approach while maintaining the original flavours. By combining local recipes with contemporary techniques and premium ingredients, the restaurant has become a popular destination among expatriates, diplomats and international visitors looking to explore Indonesian cuisine in Jakarta.
The collaboration brought together Ron Gastrobar Indonesia and Batavia Restaurant alongside SEMAJA, connecting three modern Indonesian restaurants from different cities that shared a similar approach towards Indonesian food. Despite operating in different markets, all three restaurants focused on preserving Indonesian culinary identity while presenting it in a more contemporary and globally approachable format.
The programme also united Chef Glenn Erari, Executive Chef of SEMAJA, with Chef Agus Hermawan, an Indonesian Culinary Ambassador based in Amsterdam. Both chefs are recognised for their modern interpretations of Indonesian cuisine, shaped by different backgrounds and culinary experiences. Chef Glenn incorporated cultural influences from Papua and Bangka into his cooking, while Chef Agus brought his experience in developing Indonesian flavours for European audiences through modern techniques and presentation.
The collaboration took place from 6–9 May 2026 at Ron Gastrobar Indonesia in Amsterdam, followed by 13–14 May 2026 at Batavia Restaurant in Brussels. Through the programme, SEMAJA not only expanded its international presence, but also continued its effort to position Indonesian cuisine within the global dining landscape.
